Combining rubber and plastic in a single component is often a highly relevant solution where special demands are made on design, material feel or structural stability which cannot be met with rubber alone.

Complete or partial embedment is possible.

Embedding the plastic component completely in rubber combines the elasticity and chemical resistance of rubber with the low density, high bearing capacity and relative cheapness of plastic.

Where new plastic varieties with higher strength and stability are superseding more traditional materials, it may also be desirable to design components which combine the new plastic varieties with rubber – e.g. seals and linings for pipes and plumbing materials. In this case, the required properties can be achieved with partial embedment.
